Glaze plastic Viscosity Cup for measuring thickness of glazes to insure proper application
The Viscosity Cup is a precision tool to accurately measure glaze viscosity, or thickness, for glazing.
Directions: Submerge the Viscosity Cup into the container you are using to store the glaze and fill the cup fully with clear glaze. Lift the cup approximately 6” to 8” above the glaze line, then begin timing with a stopwatch. Stop the timer when the steady stream of glaze begins to break. This step gives you a measurement of the glaze consistency. Viscosity time may vary depending on the glaze used.
For example:
The recommended viscosity for Duncan Pure Brilliance Dipping Glaze is 19-24 seconds. The correct viscosity measurement using this cup model will be 10-12 seconds.
The recommended viscosity for Colorobbia Super Clear Dipping Glaze is 19-23 seconds. The correct viscosity measurement using this cup model will be 10-11 seconds.
Please Check with the manufacturer of the glaze you are using for exact times for their glaze. You can also develop your own dwell time by checking glaze viscocity when container is first opened as new. PLEASE Mix glaze very well before checking viscocity to insure accuracy of dwell time.
